Worthing Minors
Athletic 1 v Selsey Seals: 2 |
|
On a windy day
it was Selsey that breezed into the invitation cup semi finals with a win against
Worthing Minors Athletic. Selsey started strongly and it wasn't long before a
cross from Hadley was met by Jack C at the far post to make it 0-1. Selsey
controlled the game but were unable to find a 2nd goal. Just before half time
a hand ball from Jake gave Worthing a free kick from
a reasonably safe distance out. However a toe punt was caught by
the wind a somehow it flew into the top corner (1-1 half time). The 2nd half
saw Selsey continue to control but still couldn't find a way through. With
extra time looming Harrison got away from his marker and was pulled back by
his shirt in the penalty box to win a penalty. Nathan stepped up to convert
1-2. Worthing had one more opportunity to score from a free kick just outside
the Selsey box but a fantastic save from William prevented
the equalizer and gave the win to Selsey. Next up in this
competition is away to Worthing Dynamos on 26/02/12. |

Selsey Seals: 0 v
Middleton Diamonds Red: 5 |
|
Another disappointing
result last weekend a 0-5 defeat to league leaders Middleton Diamonds. The
disappointing thing was that Selsey went into Halftime 0-2 down but didn’t
deserve to be behind after a good defensive performance. In the second half
as Selsey tried to get a goal they were caught by some clinical play from
Middleton and were 3 behind. From then on it was a rollercoaster of Middleton
football as Selsey's head appeared to drop. |

Predators: 7 v Selsey
Seals:4 |
|
A bit of a
disappointing result last weekend a 7-4 defeat against
Predators. Selsey's undoing was again poor communication and the ability
to deal with a simple through ball and a bit of pace from Predators.
Offensively Selsey were good and goals from Nathan, Conor and Robbie x2
should have been enough and but only saw it 4-4 at half time. 3 goals without
reply in the 2nd half saw Predators take the win but even then late Selsey
had chances with Ryan hitting the post twice and Hadley forcing some good
saves from the opposition keeper. |

Middleton Diamonds
Red:3 v Selsey Seals:1 |
|
Selsey suffered their 2nd
league defeat last weekend in the hands of a very good Middleton team.
Middleton had their own Rory Delap and Selsey struggled to
deal with the long fast throw. Middleton took a 2-0 lead and it could have
easily been many more before Selsey managed to sneak a goal back through
Hadley just before half time. The second half was more even with Selsey
nearly equalizing on a few occasions. However a third for Middleton killed of
the game and saw a Middleton win. |

Worthing Utd Colts:1 v
Selsey Seals:6 |
|
Selsey’s winning run
stretched to 3 matches with an impressive win over Worthing Utd Colts. Selsey
started strongly for a change and the immediate pressure paid dividends and a
shot from Nathan was deflected in. More pressure saw Selsey come close again
with a shot striking the post and the rebound was struck against the other
post. The majority of the play was in the Worthing half but the Colts held
out till half time and the score remained 0-1 to Selsey. The second half saw
Selsey kicking up a slight incline and it wasn’t long before a second goal
was added by Conor. The Selsey defence led by Jake stood firm and allowed the
midfield and attack to run riot. Selsey missed numerous chances but further goals
from Nathan, Ryan, Jack C and Harrison saw Selsey take a 0-6 lead. Worthing
got a late consolation goal which was deserved for there effort but a clean sheet would have been nice! |

Selsey Seals: 5 v
Worthing Minors Athletic: 1 |
|
Selsey recorded their
second win of the season over Worthing Minors Athletic. A slow start by
Selsey saw Worthing winning most of the 50/50 balls in midfield but Selsey
remained Solid in defence and some clinical finishing from first Ryan then
Nathan saw Selsey take a 2-0 lead. Worthing managed to pull a goal back just
before half time to make it 2-1. Selsey were ‘encouraged’ step it up during
the break and Hadley, Jack C and Harrison were brought on to change things a
bit. The Second half saw Selsey playing some better stuff and another 3 goals
from Ryan and Hadley x 2 without reply saw Selsey comfortable winners. This
result moves Selsey up to 3rd in the league. The next 2 games will
be a lot tougher and are both away. |

Selsey Seals: 5 v
Worthing Utd Youth: 2 |
|
Selsey recorded their first
win of the season with victory over top of the table Worthing. Selsey started
strongly and within the first few minutes Ryan almost scored from an overhead
kick, the keeper saved and the rebound was struck against the bar. Hadley was
on fire ,Worthing had and answer for his pace but not his determination and
another fantastic cross was met by Ryan to open the scoring. Worthing looked
shell shocked but managed to step their game and scrambled in an equaliser.
Hadley was swapped for Toby and Jack C was swapped for Robbie as
Selsey forced a corner. With Nathan not on the pitch Robbie took the corner
with forced a mistake form the Worthing keeper who put the ball into his own
net to make it 2-1. But the Worthing long ball over the top was testing
Selsey and Worthing managed to get clean through and William was beaten in a
one on one. Half Time 2-2. Harrison was brought on for Nathan as both teams
went for the win. Worthing went close on a couple of occasions but luckily
missed. Hadley came back on for Ryan and again Hadley caused problems but the
through ball was often a little strong for the chasing Selsey attack. Jack C
and Nathan were re-introduced for Conor and Finlay in a bit to freshen up the
midfield and this appeared to work as Selsey took control of the match in the
last 10mins. A goal mouth scramble ended in Jack C scoring his 2nd of the
season (3-2), A fantastic 'shot' from just inside the Worthing half from Jack
M looped in (4-2) and a fumbled shot from Nathan made it 5-2 at full time. A much deserved win
for Selsey over a good Worthing Team. This moves Selsey upto 6th place |

First points on the board
for Selsey but it could easily been a win. Selsey started slowly again and it
wasn't long before Selsey were behind. we then woke up and started to play.
Jack C was introduced and levelled the score with a glorious volley -
Zidane style from a Ryan cross. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdy5fKdLvL8 It was all level at
half time but poor defending from a corner saw Selsey behind again. Almost
immediately Selsey responded with a classy free kick from Finlay into
the top corner. From then on it was all Selsey but decisions didn’t appear to
go our way. Selsey found the net twice more but both disallowed for offside. Goals from Jack C and
Finlay |

Selsey Seals: 1 v
AFCWY: 2 |
|
The match last week
was a story of what could have been. The first half performance from Selsey
was to be fair poor and we were lucky to get to half time only losing 0-1. In
the second half Selsey showed more passion and commitment but still seemed a
little desperate in front of goal. Selsey were awarded a penalty and after a
process of elimination Andre decided to take it. His shoot was saved by the
keeper but the power was too much to hold and the rebound fell straight back
to him and then he converted to make 1-1. However the jubilation was short
lived when AFC got though 1 on 1 and a calm finish left William powerless.
Although Selsey continues to press (2 cross bars, a post and numerous line
clearances) if wasn't to be on this occasion. |
